Ingredients:

  • 1 cup kidney beans (rajma), soaked overnight
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 teaspoons Rajma Masala powder (readily available spice blend) or a mix of ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, red chili powder, and garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked kidney beans. In a pressure cooker, add the kidney beans and enough water to cover them. Cook on medium-high heat until you hear about 4-5 whistles. Lower the heat and simmer for another 10-15 minutes. Set aside.

  2. In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
