What Is Ready-mix Concrete And What Are Its Benefits

03 Jun 2022

Ready-mix concrete or RMC is manufactured in a factory or on the job site within a batching plant and transported to the construction site in a plastic, unhardened state. Delivered in good condition and ready to use. Ready-mix concrete is generally preferred for larger projects that require higher volumes or when less space is available to store and mix construction materials.

Types of ready-mix concrete:

There are three types of ready-mix concrete available.

Transit mixed Concrete: This is the most common type of ready-mix concrete used by building construction providers. The concrete material is batched at the manufacturing plant and then added to the transport truck.

Shrink mixed concrete: This type of concrete is found entirely in manufacturing plants. Material is added at batch plants and adjustments are made based on the strength requirement of the concrete.

Central mixed concrete: The ready-mix type of concrete is used when the quality of the batch must be perfect. The concrete is mixed and cured in a stable unit and then goes through all the important tests to ensure its proper quality.

Benefit:

Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) enables rapid construction through scheduled delivery to the site, and mechanized operation with the resulting economy.

RMC minimizes labour cost and site supervision costs.

RMC comes with consistency in quality through precise computerized control of sand and water additions based on mixed designs.

RMC production helps reduce cement waste due to bulk handling.

RMC production is relatively free from contamination.

Reduction of project time, which translates into savings in all aspects.

Adequate control and economy in the use of raw materials result in saving natural resources.
