Gear Oil: Is it important to your car?

Your car's gear systems are enclosed in too many metal-on-metal contacts, which lead to heat and wear and tear. Gear oil protects these moving parts by reducing friction and transferring heat away from them. Changing your car's gear oil from time to time is essential maintenance that prolongs the life of your car and helps you avoid costly repairs down the road.

What is gear oil used for?

Gear oil is a lubricant processed for use in transmission, manual gearbox, transaxle and transfer case in your car or truck. Gear oil helps your transmission run smoothly. More importantly, gear oil helps protect the crucial internal components in your car's gear system from wear and heat damage. Inadequate lubrication can result in corrosion,  scuffing, corrode, and pitting of critical drivetrain components. This degradation can compromise the performance of your car, and eventually lead to costly repairs. Gear oil and motor oil are different, and they are not interchangeable. Gear oil is mainly formulated for use on gears.
